Hello! I've just begun student teaching and I am about to begin teaching the life science standards to my class. (ms-ls1) I'm looking for a bit of advice or suggestions as I get started: First off I should say that the classroom projector is broken, so I pretty much have little to no technology to use short of attempting to use the library or pc lab occasionally. Also the school books are pretty outdated so I don't have much to guide me on content. So with all that being said I was looking for any suggestions or resources for the cell standards LS1-1 through LS1-3. Also with LS1-4 through LS1-7 I'm mostly concerned with leaving out any core ideas as the books we have do not have much in this area. Thanks for reading
Hello! While we have yet to officially adopt NGSS here in Michigan, we are facing the same issues you are - evaluating (and creating) suitable activities for our students. If you are able to get to use a computer lab, the NGSS-correlated activities from the Concord Consortium at this website may be useful: http://concord.org/stem-resources/subject/biology?gclid=CjwKEAiA0O2lBRDOrPX4oJP3t2oSJACjpaHAjBN_vE41cAAzI4bzSFZgq1RvbOt2QL27SRHKtwo5GBoChsfw_wcB Also, there are several example assessment tasks that you can look at here: http://www.nextgenscience.org/classroom-sample-assessment-tasks Enjoy your student teaching!
Thanks for the links, I'm hoping I can snag use of the pc lab a day or two and try out some of the games! It certainly seems like we are in an odd time here in KY with having just adopted the next gen standards.
I love the BSBC 5E instructional model and the BSBC website. Their units for middle school life science seem to negotiate the interweaving of the 3 dimensions artfully -- plus they are free and the materials needed are pretty basic. I hope you enjoy! http://www.bscs.org/
