For experienced teachers. What seems to be a good chemistry project for elementary school students that they really enjoy and understand?
I found a great journal article that I think you might enjoy about kitchen chemistry. It can be found at http://learningcenter.nsta.org/product_detail.aspx?id=10.2505/4/sc01_039_02_22 The title is "Someone is in the Kitchen". This excellent article uses the students’ natural interest in food and the kitchen to do several food chemistry activities. It discusses mixing colors, using journals to record observations, making food prints, choosing balanced meals, and dying fabrics. All of these activities use simple materials that are readily available.
Hi Jennifer, Peggy Ashbrook writes a column every month in the Science and Children journal, and she wrote an article about this very thing: The Early Years: Nurturing Young Chemists She includes a lesson plan with the article. Carolyn
