How can we safely and properly integrate the use of AI throughout our science lectures, experiments, or activities? In other words, can AI help throghout an experiment or will it prohibit critical thinking for the students? If so, how could we avoid that?

Hi Karla,

When used thoughtfully, AI can be a valuable tool in science lectures, experiments, or activities. It can assist by providing real-time data analysis, guiding students through complex concepts, or suggesting possible experiment modifications. However, to ensure that it doesn't hinder critical thinking, AI should be used as support rather than a replacement for hands-on engagement. Encouraging students to explore, hypothesize, and analyze results independently before consulting AI will help maintain their critical thinking skills while benefiting from technology.

Hello Karla. This is something to think about as new generation teachers. With Generation Z coming up in the field, we are expected to be tech savvy and know our ways around all types of technology. AI really is a tool that can be used for good or for evil. When thinking about how we can safely use it in the classroom for science instruction, it's almost a risk. One way we can ensure safety in the use of AI is to limit its use for just the instructor. We can use it as an aid in helping the understanding of a lesson and giving the students a visual to use in their learning. As we want the students to ask questions and become scientists themselves, by the help of an instructor, AI can allow them to personalize their learning experience. I hope more educational programs can safely integrate AI within their platforms for an innovative and exciting learning journey for the students, especially when dealing with science!
