Need for assessment. The need for assessment is so prevalent in terms of monitoring progress and learning that is acquired by the student. However to take this a step further a pre assessment can be vital in understanding what is to be more greatly focused on for these students. Pre Assessment can gain their interest, transition topics, and be a great way to know where to start teaching. Depending on the unit a great way I think to do this that I would incorporate as a teacher would be anything that the student can create artistically. If they can draw a model or picture to show their understandng.I like the idea of comparing and contrasting so there are ideas that we can communicate about what we already know. I like the graphic organizer aspect as well. So something like a venn diagram or a yes and no list would be great. As the student learns more we can reference that and expand upon it. Another great way would be a kwl chart about what the student knows, what they wonder, and what they learned. Another great way is at the end of the unit as a sort of test and to help their conversation is a brief interview to let the student communicate with the words they are learning.
