Attention middle/high school teachers—NCAR/UCAR’s Meet the Experts series is back for the 2021-2022 school year! Our live virtual programs highlight an expert in a different job/field each month, with time for Q&A from students.

Each program will have two sessions on the scheduled date. Sessions will be recorded and made available after the program. Even if your class cannot participate live, they can send questions in advance and we will try to share them during the program. Find more information on the series, including upcoming programs and links to recordings of past programs, on our web page

Upcoming programs (all times listed are Mountain Time):

Sept. 22: What’s in the air, and why do we care?
Many of us around the U.S. noticed visible air pollution this summer due to widespread wildfire smoke. But many other types of air pollution exist that we can’t even see! NCAR atmospheric chemist Frank Flocke’s job is to measure and monitor the gases, chemicals, and particles that affect our air quality. We’ll chat with him about what he finds in the air samples he collects from NCAR’s research aircraft, and how that affects our everyday lives on the ground.

Zoom registration:
11-11:30am MT session (1:00-1:30pm ET)
1-1:30pm MT session (3:00-3:30pm ET)

Oct. 7: Space Weather Sleuths
How do we observe and learn about something that is 93 million miles away from Earth and burns at a temperature of up to 27 million degrees Fahrenheit?! Join NCAR scientists Rebecca Centeno Elliott and Astrid Maute to explore their work studying the magnetism of the Sun, and how that affects our atmosphere here on Earth and its magnetic field!

Zoom registration:
