Kristen Moorhead
Kristen Moorhead is a science education consultant who supports schools in their efforts to shift science instruction towards student–centered classrooms where investigating and making sense of phenomena is the heart of the classroom work. Her journey began in her own classroom by participating in high quality professional development as an elementary and middle school teacher 20 years ago. Her classroom teaching experiences include supporting teachers K-8 to teach hands-on science in a rural one-room school house in Dominica for the Peace Corps; teaching 3rd and 4th grade in Denver, Colorado; and teaching 6th grade in a middle school in Phoenix, Arizona, where she was the recipient of the 2002 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching. Her experiences outside of the classroom include facilitating teacher learning for the Center for Science Teaching and Learning at Northern Arizona University, supporting teachers as a field specialist for the NSF-funded Arizona Rural Systemic Initiative at Arizona State University, and now designing and facilitating professional learning as an independent consultant. She has degrees from University of Arizona (BA in Elementary Ed, 1994) and Northern Arizona University (MA in Secondary Ed, 2003).
