Collection Review
I think this is a great idea for a collection. The general theme is present in all of the articles and it serves a strong purpose in the classroom. As a student myself, I know the lessons I most enjoyed/enjoy in school are the unique and creative ones. Too often, science in schools is textbook-based and limited. It is important to integrate creativity in science as well as all subjects. The article titled Creativity in the Science Classroom has many quotes that stood out to me, like "creativity is a key element of building scientific knowledge" and "creativity is a quintessential attribute of human beings." This article also mentions the SCAMPER strategy and creative problem solving which promote creative thinking and new ideas. The articles also mention many activities teachers can do in a classroom to promote creative thinking. I found the science and art article very interesting because many students can't express themselves verbally but they can use art as a medium to portray their ideas or understanding. I also found the science fiction article very interesting because I had never really considered the educational benefits of science fiction books, but I now see them. The last article, Teaching For Creativity, has many key questions and parts teachers should consider when aiming for a more creative classroom. The teacher must be proactive and change up some of the teaching practices, but it will all be worth it in the end. A creative classroom fosters growth, critical thinking, and also fun!
