From my experience it seems like science gets overlooked quite often. Students love science in elementary when the activities are very "hands- on". From my experience with student teaching in kindergarten, it is very important to include a lot of hands on activities! They love to be moving and they learn much better when they are able to experience it. For example, we took the class outside to learn about weather patterns/seasons and living/nonliving. When making plans for any lesson I always try to include at least one hands on activity.

I love the idea of starting a classroom garden. It makes learning very engaging and enjoyable for the students. It shows the students responsibility as well as learning about the different parts of plants. Another great idea would be to take a field trip to a nursery or garden center.
