These are all great suggestions! Thanks to everyone for posting. I'm working on a project now that requires me to think in terms of apps and I've used a few of these, but there are some other exciting possibilities here.

I also agree with Adah that the Oreo cookie model is not my favorite activity. I see too many chances for reinforcing or creating misconceptions with that activity. I have found the best results (4-12) to have been using the styrofoam ball/light source model as suggested by Mitchell and Dorothy.
