The Articles I Found Helpful vs. Those I Didn't
There were some great things about these articles and there were some things I didn’t care for. Starting with the good, I really liked the article Simplifying Inquiry Instruction. It was nice to see inquiry broken down into pieces, made it seem much more manageable in the classroom. I chose to focus on inquiry based learning for my student teaching year and am somewhat struggling to incorporate it into my daily classroom duties but this article seems great for a starting teacher. I definitely recommend it. Another great part of this collection are the articles Classroom Management and Inquiry-Based Learning: Finding the Balance and The Inquiry Matrix. The first article really hits home for me being a firm believer of classroom management being key for learning. It gives great strategies to use in your classroom and it is a relatively short article. The second article further breaks down inquiry based learning and contains some great charts to help with developing lesson plans. I recommend printing of these articles and keeping them in your classroom to reference! The other three articles, which are not bad articles or uninformative, I just found dry and hard to read. They go over what inquiry based learning is and the one article even dives further into problem-solving based learning but again, they were slow reads. The collection as a whole is very informative for new teachers or for those trying to include more inquiry into their lesson plans but it’s not necessary to read the whole collection, just read the good articles I’ve listed above and you’ll be fine with your new found knowledge on inquiry based learning.
