The article, “Fat Finders” by Kottie Christie-Blick was an excellent article that I would definitely recommend. The article is very thorough in its procedure and purpose. The author states that the activity was done with a fourth grade class but could be modified and used for other grade levels as well. I never thought about having students do a science lesson to evaluate the types of foods they are eating and teaching food science. I don’t remember ever being taught about food in elementary, but I think it could be incredibly beneficial. I like how hands-on the activity is because it allows kids to see directly what their food does to the paper bag and in addition what it does to their bodies. This is much more beneficial than having kids read about it from a book. This article provides a fun way for kids to learn about the foods they are eating and why healthy foods are important for our bodies.

I found the article titled, “Bubble shapes” to be an efficient way to teach students a few different things. This article covers light and how it reflects as well as surface area and why bubbles are shaped in a sphere. I was interested as I read this article to find out why a bubble pops and why it shows so many colors in it. I’ve never had these concepts related back to something as simple as a bubble and it was really neat to learn about. I think kids would really enjoy this article and the activity along with it! The article mentions that bubbles pop because of the air evaporation and mentioned several factors such as the wind and sun that contribute to this. This would be a great thing to test in the classroom and note the observations in a science journal.

The article, “Water for life” addresses the concept of the water cycle in a simple and easy to understand way with great graphics for kids, especially visual learners to understand. This article would be a good article to have students read and then discuss it as a class. I especially liked the activity at the end that suggested that you make a water cycle terrarium. For kids to be able to make a terrarium after reading about it in the article will help them remember it much better. In addition, having children read this article, discussing it as a class, and then doing the hands on lab activity of the terrarium addresses several different types of learners. Kinesthetic learners, visual learners, and auditory learners could all benefit from this lesson.
