As far as precipitation goes, I saw a teacher once clump a napkin up and put it on a ruler. She put the ruler over a bucket and slowly started to drip water on to the napkin. Once the napkin got saturated enough, it started to "rain". This visual might help you explain the concept of precipitation to children.

An interesting activity to do for trees might be to have the students make booklets on the life cycles of trees from seed to adult. Or perhaps make a booklet on what different types of trees are used for.

One of the things that comes to mind when I think of learning science through play is sorting objects. You may mix plastic tolls with plastic foods in a center and watch how children sort them even if you don't ask them to.
