I think a good method of correct the misconception is just show students the different distance between sun and earth in different time of model. Teacher can also mention it during class. Or we can use assessment like quiz or questions let them learn about it.

There is an interesting activity which is similar to this activity. First, we put all of the bulbs together one by one. The first one has lightening and others without energy. When the first one hit the second, we can see the energy translate into the bulbs. This is Newton's cradle. This can help students see the translation of the energy and it may help in this lesson.

I was teach students about how to cook for two months. I think it is okay for students to use some cookers. Students can try to use cooler cutting food and teacher cook the food to show then the change of the food and the sound of pizz.
