I would create sentence stems and print them/cut them. This could help them with their thoughts and limit the amount of writing, but still get some practice.

This happened to me as well. I would advise you to set a specific day and time out of the week to do science. For my class, fridays worked well after math tests. Integration could be another solution as well.

I have found that giving these students a role in the lesson as a helper helps sometimes. The busier they are, the less time they have for disruptive behavior. Find out what his/her interests are and see if you can incorporate them into your lesson. I hope this helps!
