SCE 4310 Collection Review
The collection “Living Organisms” is a comprehensive set of resources appropriate for both students and teachers. There area variety of resource types, such as journal articles, books chapters, and science objects. There are also a variety of topics regarding living organisms, such as food webs, ecosystems, distinguishing between living and nonliving things, and organisms. There are resources for teachers, like the journal article “Drawing on Student Understanding: Using illustrations to invoke deeper thinking about animals,” that can be used as a source of ideas for promoting artistic expression in a lesson about organisms. The SciGuide, “Organisms: Grade K-4,” can be useful for guiding interesting lessons about living organisms. Students can explore the interactive Science Object, “Coral Reef Ecosystems: The Living Reef,” to enhance their knowledge about coral reef ecosystems. Overall, the collection has a wide variety of useful resources for teaching and learning living organisms in an elementary classroom.
