I think there are many labs that can be incorporated into an elementary classroom. If possible, hands-on experiments for students work the best because they can discover the learning for themselves. One thing that is important for their safety is to emphasize that the materials that are used in the experiment aren't toys and need to be treated like tools.

Hi Stephanie,
If possible, I think it would be fun and engaging for students to make an accurate model of the distance between the planets. This could be in a hallway or on a sidewalk with chalk. This could also tie in with a math lesson on ratios to make an accurate model.

Hi Joel,
I agree that chemistry can be a hard topic to cover with elementary students. I think one way to start is to talk about the phases of matter, and then lead into how they are separated on the periodic table. I know when I was in 6th grade we had an activity where we research an individual element and then made a paper cube of sorts with all the information and hung them from the ceilin...
