My name is Rebekah Tetzloff. I am currently a student at Kent State University. I am studying integrated science with a concentration in Earth Science. I start my student teaching this year so I am very excited but also nervous. I am with a cooperating teacher that has a physical science, physics, and earth and space class. So I'm excited to learn and gain new experiences. I also coach JV volleyball which I enjoy immensely!

For those of you who do not have a lab classroom I would like to know how you enjoy setting up your classroom? I like the idea of going against the traditional set up of all the desks/tables facing the front. So I would like to learn what worked best for some teachers and what did not and maybe explain why? Thank you for your suggestions and help!

As I am doing my pre-service student teaching, I have begun to wonder what the best ways are to give students their missing homework and assignments. The idea of traditional assessments is so hard for me and I always have wanted to find new ways to assess students rather than the traditional route of taking a test or giving a standard presentation. The idea of a talk show is so fun, and I can imagine the students would be very engaged. I do think that another form of assessment should be added to this to make sure the students fully understand the content. Maybe even having the students right a paper or outline of what they would like to discuss and better explain their thinking and understanding of the terms. I really like the idea of incorporating misconceptions into this activity and having a specific group watching and looking out for those as well as informing their fellow classmates on what misconceptions they may have. I definitely think it’s important for the students to have an evidence-based argument so maybe that could even be added to a paper they may have to write.
