I believe science is a very hands on subject and the more you incorporate this in the classroom, I feel like the more the students can take back from it. I am also researching in ways to incorporate informal learning in classrooms. I gained a lot of insight when I volunteered at the Maryland Science Center and they had a lot of cool ideas. I think the main thing is how to involve the students in a way that they will really remember and have fun at the same time.

I think it will be helpful to build a garden for a specific purpose. For an example, the rain garden absorbs urban rain water runoff. Depending on the kind of environment your school is surrounded in, you can build a garden that supports it.

Sizing Up the Solar System

I really liked this article because it had so many pictures and graphs and examples that I can gain more insight from. Also, this article talks about the problems of current models and what we can do to change that. It gives us direction for the sentence strip model and conversion charts that go with the activity. It is really cool and it really an interactive article.

I thought that this was a great article explaining the reasoning behind Pluto not being a planet anymore. Also, the student questions were great, as well. its definitely something I can use in the classroom for older students when discussing about the planets and solar system.
