SCE4310 Collection Review
This collection consists of articles and resources about how humans affect the environment. I enjoyed reviewing this collection because it has interactive resources as well as one chapter from a book and an article, so there is a mix of all types of resources. The article, Humans and the Earth, was interesting to read because it talks about how students can come up with ways to reduce our use of natural resources. I think it is important that students learn and understand how we can impact the environment positively, but also negatively. Using inquiry-based lessons are great to implement the idea of conserving what the Earth creates as the article demonstrated. Another thing I found great about this collection was that one of the resources incorporates social studies into the lesson. The resource has a series of lessons to use in the classroom that deals with humans and nature, but adding mixing in concepts from social studies. I think it’s a great way to talk about the history of humans and the outdoors as well as teaching the science behind it. Lastly, the SciPacks chosen were all related to how humans affect the environment, but they had interactive videos as well as questions throughout the passages to check for understanding. The SciPacks could definitely be used in the classroom and can be done in whole group, which is very engaging and meaningful. Overall, when I teach my future students about how humans affect the environment, I will refer to this collection because it is very resourceful and helpful.
