Composting Lesson!
I am currently a student teacher at the University of Delaware and I found that this article was extremely helpful as I was creating a lesson plan about composting for my second grade class! Composting can absolutely be an astounding topic to talk about and educate young minds with. The author of this article did an awesome job portraying the importance of getting the young students hands on and allow them to observe closely in order to keep them engaged in the topic of composting. Due to lack of {extensive} time to conduct this lesson plan, it wasn't realistic for my student teaching partner and I to conduct an actual class compost that the students keep up with, as the author conducted. However, we were able to use the ideas of the students being able to work more hands on with materials by implementing an investigation, involving natural and man-made items, where our students had the opportunity to dig a little deeper into the definition and purpose of composting by comparing items that would be acceptable to compost versus items that would go in the recycling or trash!
