Hello, my name is Jessica Garcia. I am a senior at FIU pursing a BA degree in Early Childhood Education with hopes of getting a masters in Speech Pathology. I am very determined to learn more about teaching science and understanding how to keep future students interested and motivated in the subject. I personally have only been a fan of science during elementary years where it was all fun experiments and field trips because i am a hands on learner and i felt like i needed to perform activities in order to learn. Whereas in middle school and high school it was more about books, lectures and power points being taught. I want to learn how to stimulate the mind of young children and help them become interested in science because of its importance that helps us grow and develop effectively.

Food Chain

Animals depend on plants and other animals for food, and are linked together in maintaining a balanced ecosystem. They need one another in order for the food chain to flow and keep the environments stability intact. Animals need air, water and food while plants require air, water, nutrients and light to survive.

I think that in order for students to be engaged and interested, teachers must motivate them by making them be active. Students enjoy getting up from their seats and performing an experiment even if they don't care for the topic. I am a really big fan of the great outdoors, i think students should learn outside in order to be active and express themselves freely. Especially when learning science, students should be hands on with their experiments and develop their own learning. I have always loved Dr. Suess books as i feel they provide a strong educational message while keeping students interested. The lorax is a great story to incorporate in your lessons, it provides a fun way to teach about recycling, pollution, deforestation and more! This is a very educational and useful collection with numerous different resources that provide students with the knowledge and motivation they need to learn about natural disasters. The articles provide information on the different types of disasters while also providing different hands on activities students can do to better understand natural disasters. Students can use their problem solving skills as well as observe and infer their process skills.

This collection provides a lot of useful resources that are insightful and encourages students to want to learn. The articles, especially "Greening the school' teach students the value of recycling and the importance of keeping their environment healthy and clean. This offers student different ways to stimulate their thinking and develop inquiry based on observing, experimenting and inferring.
