What an interesting idea. I don't see why not. I think music can go hand-in-hand with Science when you want the students to easily remember something (ex. turning important key points of a lesson into a memorable song), or when you are possibly doing an experiment involving sounds. Wow, thanks for sharing! It looks like such a cool opportunity, and it's so tempting because Hawai'i to LA is only a 5-hour flight away! Wish it was more accessible to teachers like myself. What's really standing out to me is the Citizen Science sessions! It's always cool to learn and gain knowledge that we can push out into our own communities!

This seems like a super fun and engaging activity for your 1st-grade class! I am currently with a 2nd-grade class, and whenever we do activities that involve a lot of materials, I know they like to put more of their focus on touching everything instead of listening to me as well!
I think with your first graders and this activity, maybe you should try to spread out each mate...
