I think that utilizing the educational applications that are available on the I-pad will definitely help students. I think that a teacher needs to make it abundantly clear in the beginning of the year that I-pads are only used for these apps and not for individual exploration on the web unless instructed to do so.

I can definitely understand your concerns with utilizing a new technology in the classroom. However, I think that educational applications that are now available greatly outweigh the minor distractions that it may cause. I would try and incorporate some STEM projects that are focused on a project that is specifically tailored to girls. This way you could keep the STEM club co-ed but hopefully attract more girls once they find out about the activity.

Scope on the Skies: Solar system update

Solar System-Update

I thought that this article provided a wealth of information about the solar system. I really enjoyed how the article provided an update on the solar system as a whole because it is always changing. I also liked how the article discussed what a planet is at a basic level. Overall, I thought that while the article was only two-pages, it was packed with helpful information. I will definitely be using this article with my students in the future.

Earth and Space Science- Review

This website provided a lot of great background information about Earth and Space science standards and teaching. I really liked how it broke down different standards for teaching science (assessment, teaching, ext). This chapter also gives examples of observation projects and general activities to engage learners. Overall, I gave this chapter 5 stars because it is a great resource for teachers when teaching about Earth and Space science.
