I am a 16 year veteran teaching third grade after many years teaching Kinder. My goal is to develop math/science skills to students who are a little more sophisticated than 5 year olds.

This has been challenging for me but I try to prioritize open-ended questioning, to avoid right or wrong answers, and peer grouping to increase engagement. I'm willing to accept a louder more chaotic classroom environment during experiments and make sure I hustle to provide proximity control to ensure safe conditions.

I devote two 30-minute sessions for Science per week in my general lesson plans. But I have also made an effort to integrate Science in my Literacy block so I can gain more class time. I try to plan labs/experiments during the 30-minute sessions and focus on reading/writing science related content during Lit. block.
