I have taught a school at the extremes in terms of expectations.
I think that parent education in the early grades in a big deal.
Role models and heroes can help too.
For the average kid it goes back to the family / community.
We have to shift the culture and we can't do it alone.

I too love TMBG Here comes Science...
They are w real band...
a long time ago the did a song about the sun ( the sun is a mass of incandescent gas) and then the re did it to make it more correct ( the sun a miasma of incandescent plasma). I love to use this to talk about how science is a process....
