Collection Review
I love this collection because it has an abundant amount of resources about organisms and how it works with the environment. It facilitates the learning that the organism and the environment shape each other and are important for one another. The first Science Object called Coral Reef: Ecosystems: Interdependence, is a great resource because it is interactive and it is inquiry based. This resource is great for teachers because it will help teachers learn the subject better and help come up with great ways to teach it. It specifically targets the relationship among the species in the coral reef ecosystem, which in turn connects with the food chain. The next resource that I enjoyed was, Coral Reef Ecosystems: The Abiotic Setting. This is another great interactive and inquiry based teacher tool. It focuses on the effect of abiotic characteristics on the coral reef system. These affect each other, because the number of organisms found in the reef depends on the physical conditions of the environment and resources available. The coral reef system often fluctuates, however its conditions remains reasonably constant for hundreds of years. The following resources I enjoyed were Organisms: Grades K-4 and Organisms: Grades 5-8. These SciGuides have wonderful lesson plans, simulations, and web-based resources for teachers. These resources provide specific organism content for the specific grade levels. Everything is based on inquiry and stimulates learners to be able to understand organisms and their environments. I also enjoyed that there is a resources and human impact science object because it is important that there are tools to help teachers learn about the impact humans have on the environment and vice versa. All teachers need to be informed about this to facilitate their teaching about population and environmental factors, as well as effects towards resources.
