Motion and Stability

I really like this article and review of some possible motion and stability apps for use in the classroom! I am especially impressed with the idea that the use of an app for virtual experiment or simulation is not a replacement for hands on experimentation. I agree that virtual experiments support hands on and can increase time on learning because they are often more time efficient. I was very interested in learning about Coconut Star as I teach kindergarten and it sounds like a great resource to complement science instruction in my classroom. The advice of having students explore the app for 3-5 minutes before actually assigning an experiment or simulation is a fantastic idea. I am also quite impressed that both apps reviewed in the article are available for free, this is important for school usage.

Reggio Emilia Approach

I enjoyed reading about the Reggio Emilia Approach. I love the idea of getting students to map out their own learning. When students are excited about their learning they are so much more engaged! I am a kindergarten teacher so it was amazing to hear how this can be implemented with the younger learners. I also really like the way the teacher incorporated parent involvement into the lesson and made the parents invested in student learning.

Great resource showing K-12 Progression

I really enjoyed this short podcast! The Core Idea is that forces cause changes in motion. I loved the way the video explained that this idea is constant from K-12. The progression was clearly mapped out and explained. In kindergarten the Core Idea is taught as pushes and pulls and how speed and direction cause change. As students get older, the level of complexity increases as does difficulty. I found it quite helpful to see the level of progression within a Core Idea go all the way from K-12.
