Making Movies in the Classroom

This article gives ideas about how to guide students in making a movie about the information they are learning in the classroom. The technology information is a little bit outdated - students can complete this process almost completely on their phones now - but the ideas of having them create scripts, practice dialogue, and incorporate props are all great. I would like to try having my students create a movie in place of an exam at the end of one of our units.

Spring Into Energy

This article provides five different activities to help students understand various types of potential energy. I like that the activities are all different enough to keep the students engaged, but all of them still enforce the idea that energy must first be added into a system in order for it to be used later. The activities are written for elementary age students, but could easily be modified for older students as a review or reinforcement of concepts they have learned previously.

What Causes Tides?

I enjoyed this overview of tides. The explanations of how both the moon and the sun contribute to the tides was easy to understand. The information was clear without offering too many details that might confuse students. I love the mention of the Bay of Fundy - it's one of my favorite examples to talk about when doing a lesson on tides! Finally, the diagram was really helpful - I especially liked the green shaded areas that show where the pulls from both the sun and moon combine.
