I am currently a second year teacher. I recently started a new job with the Propel Charter schools teaching one section of Environmental Science and four sections of Physical Science. Although I am currently living in Pittsburgh, I grew up in South Jersey. I came to Pittsburgh for college and decided to stick around because I have grown to love the city.

Ethan, I am also a teacher in PA. I have the same questions you have. Maybe we can communicate with one another and share any answers we both find out because I am doing so much through NSTA and it would be great if some of it can count towards the PA PD requirements.

Even as a science teacher I find myself needing to refresh on certain concepts prior to teaching them to my students. The NSTA Learning Center offers many refreshers under the "Learning Resources & Opportunities" tab. Tried and True: Cubes and Raisins: A Student-Centered Lesson Designed to Teach Observations and Inferences

Cube Activity

Although I didn't try the raisin activity, I think the cube activity is a great first week of school activity to get the students used to the nature of science! It is a challenging but fun way to explore observations and inferences. I usually have a handful of students who are able to get the correct missing side and the rest are usually able to figure out the name but not the numbers. Great activity to get students thinking and talking science. Highly recommended!

Great Content

I recently started teaching an unit on energy. This science object was a great tool to help me refresh on the content before I teach it to my students! It also had some good resources for me to show and share with my students.
