I lived in Japan for three years after graduating college. While living in Japan, I completed a nine month long internship at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology. I developed a passion for scuba diving while living overseas. I am now a divemaster who enjoys using my diving experiences in the classroom.

I have a few girls in my class that I can see have an interest in STEM related careers. I try my best to fuel this interest. I recently offered my girls the chance to participate in a competition next year that is available only for females involved in STEM. They are excited and eager to compete.

I also think that students should be exposed to STEM career options at an early age, but as they approach college I think it is imperative that you stress the importance of internships within their field.
