I agree with BrainPop. I love that it is very student centered and there are many activities available and so many subjects and topics to choose from. I love that is still popular because we used to use it when I was in school!

The school I am student teaching at is really big on interactive notebooks so we have one for every subject. I recently just taught a lesson on soil and it allowed them to take notes and write descriptions about humus and used their five senses to describe it. I think it is very hard to accommodate both genders in science. Maybe you could think of more gender neutral activities that both will enjoy. You could maybe even have a boys vs. girl type of competition. This will really encourage the girls to beat the boys and participate.
