My NSTA / Peers / Emily McClarigan

I am originally from Pennsylvania but moved to Jamestown, TN at 15. Some of my hobbies include building unique lego sets and going to the gym. I desire to become a teacher because I hope to be a part of a child’s educational journey. My own journey was not an easy one and I want to show each child we all learn differently and at different paces. I want my students to know good things don’t come easy and it is hard work. Having an education is something that can never be taken away and oh the places it can take you. I hope my students can come to a place where they feel safe and seen, not only with the teachers, but also with their fellow classmates. Life outside the classroom is hard enough and for a short time during their day I want them to know they are valued. I do have two goals as a teacher.

Coral Reef Ecosystem Review

One of my assignments for the semester was to complete an online E-book through the NSTA online textbook. There were plenty of options, but this E-book seemed the most intriguing. I had some background knowledge of coral reef ecosystems before reading. Each science objective had the right amount of information to where it wasn't overwhelming. Out of all the ideas discussed in this book, reef ecology is the most enjoyable to read. I highly recommend this book to everyone. You never know how intriguing something may be until you read about it.
