I'm in a 5th grade Science and Reading classroom (weird combination but it works) and we just started using the STEMscopes notebook. I have never seen a Science textbook in this classroom.

My 5th graders are about to start going over the phases of the moon. We have created the moon boards where the students stick their head in a whole and rotate the board and they can see the phases. What is another cool activity to do besides this one if there needs to be a reteach (besides Oreo cookies)??

This is a significant concern. I am placed in a 5th grade Science classroom and this issue is very apparent. The boys are ALWAYS excited to start Science and I have noticed the girls are rarely ever excited.
