Hi! Just back from #NSTA15 and I found the Cell Zone booth pretty cool. It had larger than life plastic models of a cell that you could adjust so that what you are seeing under the microscope is what your model on your lab bench looked like. Also, I love Amazing Cell menu at Learn.Genetics. http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/cells/ Unfortunately there is a lot of flash so iPads are out...

I love the BSBC 5E instructional model and the BSBC website. Their units for middle school life science seem to negotiate the interweaving of the 3 dimensions artfully -- plus they are free and the materials needed are pretty basic. I hope you enjoy! http://www.bscs.org/

Hi! I also think going to the project bud burst web site is a great way to learn about changes in the seasons and plants. http://budburst.org/ I just attended a session at #NSTA15 and plan to have my students become citizen scientists.

Ready to teach about DNA!

A perfect review for a middle school life science teacher. I thought the interactives and images clearly explained the concepts. I liked the attention and time spent on crossing over. I was a little disappointed in the mitosis and meiosis sections but since there are completely different sci guides on both that go in more detail it was fine. Thanks for the review!

Awesome ideas for modeling in science -- NGSS practice!

I am working with a fellow teacher to develop a professional development course for my school district on the NGSS practices for elementary and middle school teachers. This is a great resource to go through and go back to as the modeling class is put into practice. Anyone who is interested in NGSS practice 2 would benefit from reviewing this collection. Lovely!

Writing in Science Collection

Great ideas to include writing in your science class!

Two lovely finds 1) The article on constructing and revising models. I know how important modeling is in science and engineering and also know that my science teaching needs a "model" revision. This article is a start. AND 2) Tuned in Turned on. Who is watching or DVRing Cosmos? I am! and I hope this article helps me organize activities I can do with Cosmos and other shows like it.
