I must reinforce the idea of researching the animals that you bring to the classroom, communication with administrators and sanitation. Keep the animals clean and well fed (not overfed) to minimize odors as well as disease probability. You might check if there is a post-secondary school that has either materials/instructor or an instructor who can come out to the school or supply you with visuals to aid in the understanding.

I keep a variety of animals, plants and materials from other sciences available for students to observe and ask questions about. I find it increases their interest and desire to be in class and focused.
