I think it is very important to state expectations before starting the experiement. Students can't read minds, so making sure that they know what they are suppose to be doing at all times is a great start. I think there are several ways to make sure to keep all students engaged and invloved in all lessons. One thing that I always try and do is relate the lesson to my students in some way.
