To help keep students involved and engage, you should have them do hands-on activities. Students need to be able to explore the world around them and discover new ideas and answers to questions. Having students work together can also help with engagement, working with classmates can be fun!

This is a great question and a situation that i'm sure most, if not all, teachers have experienced. However, above all else, reply to the student with encouragement! I think it would be best to assign one assignment each night. From experience, I've had students lose their packets. It's been easiest to just assign them a worksheet everyday. Though of course, it is based on your class and what you have seen works better for them. Maybe try out the packet idea for one week and see how it goes. Good luck!
