This collection is by far my favorite. I think introducing students to plants by allowing them to have their own garden is a great way to get them engaged. The article "Creating a Schoolyard Mini-Garden" can be used as a guide on how to get a garden started, while the other articles in the collection demonstrate multiple concepts that can be taught using the garden and plants as a tool. Anything that allows the students to get out of the classroom, and take their learning into real world situations it is far more likely to excite students and make them happy to learn

Food Chain Collection Review

London, I really enjoyed reading through the articles in your Collection on the food chain. Each artifact that you selected had very valuable information and was all very well organized to ensure you could implement each resource in an inquiry lesson. The artifact “Engaging Students with Dynamic Models” describes perfectly an engaging activity that can be done when introducing the food chain as a concept. Using Jenga in order to engage the students is something that I would have never thought of, and would now consider! Playing a game in order to introduce a concept is far better than just showing a video on the food chain. I also loved how you chose an article that focused specifically on teaching students about their locally produced foods. That is a great way to really have the students explore their local community, while having them use their background knowledge on food in general. The goal of all good teachers is to ensure that the students you are teaching are engaged and excited about what they’re learning. This being said I thought that incorporating the NSTA’s I Wonder Why series was a great idea. The “What does an Animal Eat?: I Wonder Why” has illustrations and detailed explanations that will without a doubt make any student interested in learning more about animals and their diet! Overall, the entire collection has everything you would need in order to write a fantastic lesson on the food chain! Great work!
