This article talks about letting students manipulate the objects to show that they can put forces onto objects. I really like the cup idea and how it relates to real life events even if they may not completely understand it at first. I also like that they use simple objects that kids have probably seen before and can manipulate on their own.

I like how this article is taking a different spin and having the students come up with thing that could go in "frog pond soup." It would be so easy to just ask students what things should go in a frog pond. Some students may find this interesting, but it would be more interesting to them if they had to create "frog pond soup." You could make this as simple or as complex as your students can handle. I also think for the younger students it would be beneficial and fun to make a class pond, either and painting, drawing, or bulletin board.

Filling the Gap

What I found interesting about this article is that there is a difference in what students know about animals and what we as educators think they know. It starts with us as educators not knowing ourselves exactly what animals are and what makes them an animal. When we think about what animals students know we may be able to guess, but we don't think like they do as to why they are animals. To teach students about animals I think it is important to understand what you know first and understand your own biases before trying to teach your students.
