Hi, everyone! :) My name is Ashley Garcia and I am a Senior at Florida International University (FIU). By the time I graduate, I will have attained a Bachelor's degree in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) and a Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology (SL-P). I became interested in a career in special education after my younger brother was diagnosed with Adenovirus Encephalitis in 2007. In ten years, I hope to have a career (either as a special education teacher or speech-language pathologist) in which I can help students with special needs reach their maximum potential. On my spare time, I enjoy serving at my local church, reading, and baking. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family and boyfriend of almost five years. Through the use of this website, I hope to learn more about the sciences so that I can become a great special education teacher!

Coral Reefs Collection Review

Hi Hazel, Great collection! As a pre-service teacher, I feel unprepared to teach students about coral reefs. Therefore, I believe I (as well as other teachers) will benefit greatly from viewing your collection. Your collection is composed of several types of resources. I especially like how you included the coral reefs science object. This resource will come in handy to teachers who perhaps don’t know much about coral reefs. By completing the science object, teachers will gain the knowledge necessary to teach their students. I also like how you included several podcasts, which is an interactive way to learn about different teaching resources. Great job!

"Teaching About Weather" Collection Review

Hi Krystal, Congratulations on creating a great collection! You chose a great topic on which to base your collection. Weather is something students interact with everyday. Therefore, it is important for students of all grade levels to have an understanding of weather. I like how you included various resources (journal articles, book chapters, etc.). The article I most enjoyed was "Fabulous Weather Day". This article described how a school in Maryland concludes a unit on weather by allowing students to act like meteorologist. Good job!
