Hi Ely,
First, you want to make sure you know what your students are interested in. Then, have some lesson plans ready with engage or sets that will catch their attention in what they will be learning. Another way is to look for ideas on how to make the lesson fun. There are many resources online that you can use, like Pinterest. So, explore the various opportunities for fun!

I agree with your philosophy, teachers hold the key of knowledge and they hold the key in knowing how to write a great lesson plan. I know growing up, my classmates and I would look forward to a hands on activities. Instead of hands on activities, what had textbook work. To be honest, textbook work is never fun.
