Hi, I'm Sam and I'm currently a junior studying Elementary Education at FIU. I plan on graduating in Spring 2018 and hope to teach English abroad for a few years before settling down as a kindergarten teacher. Eventually I would like to attend graduate college so that I can become a school counselor.
I am excited to utilize the Learning Center so that I can gain more insight into becoming a well-prepared teacher in all areas of science, as it has never been my strongest subject in school. I believe that it takes becoming engaged and active in your own learning in order to succeed in a new field, so I am ready to soak it all in!

As a Floridian, I can totally sympathize with you, as it can be difficult to teach young children this concept when they are really only experiencing hot, sunny weather year-round. After I observed a kindergarten classroom for my field placement this semester, I have understood the importance of incorporating weather-speak every day. This means creating fun ways to talk about the we...

In my "Teaching Elementary Science" class we kept science journals throughout the entire semester! I think using one direct source of note-taking in science allows students to become organized and consistent in their work, but I think it goes way past just having a notebook they use for science. My professor actually had us divide our journals into sections, for example: "class notes...

I just completed my field placement for the semester in a kindergarten class and I think the SmartBoard was the most used and successful source of technology that I witnessed! With SmartBoards you can project the l...

Stephanie, I think it's so great that you were able to find a scipack to go along with your collection. After just browsing through the "Force and Motion" SciPack I can see you are left with such an array of resources to utilize in your teach and make it so successful.
SCE 4310 Field Assignment Collection

Stephanie, I thought you picked fantastic resources for your specific topic. The worksheet you included is a great tool for early learners of the food chain, as it is challenging yet simplistic in nature. I also enjoyed the text "What Does an Animal Eat?" because it was incredibly informative while engaging to the student with the elaborate drawings of each animal!
