Teaching Through Trade Books: Figuring Out Food Chains

Very Helpful
I found this article to be extremely helpful and relevant for my research relating to food chains and the movement of matter in particular ecosystems. One of my favorite aspects of this resource was that it provided book recommendations for the unit as well as very clear and detailed diagrams. The diagrams were particularly helpful in understanding the different levels of the food chain!

Quite Impressed!
Similar to the above comment I too was unable to listen to this web seminar live, however I felt as though I was still able to significantly benefit from listienng to the recorded version. I was very impressed by the way they explained each lesson in terms of "learning sets." Each lesson had three individual learning sets which addressed a different question, all of which crossed concepts with one another. I liked how they put emphasis on the fact that although these questions may focus on different aspects yet they all relate back to the main idea of the unit topic. Once they explained how to teach the lesson they then did a poll asking the live listeners to vote in on which type of assessment form they think their students best benefit from. The poll choices were A. Test B. presentation C. None. I was happy to see that the majority of voters choice presentations as their answer. It's nice to see that as the years go on and we stray farther from the NCLB Act of 2001 more educators are leaning towards project based learning as well as a standard based grading system!
