The trick to getting pictures other than scientist in labs is to ask students to draw what they think their idea of a scientist is. Give no more input than that. Here is what we have done with our required summer reading for this summer. First, a rotation has been set up so that each grade level has a different themed reading. Ex. Science department- all incoming 10th graders. Theology-all incoming 11th graders etc... Next year science will not have a reading requirement.

What we have done is for next year only, we are waiving our $410 textbook rental fee. Parents can then use that money to purchase an iPad. Going forward, we are not adopting any new textbooks or so we have been told. Students will be charged a $75 technology fee for this next year.
