Excellent tool for grading writing!

It is so important to integrate writing as much as possible into the science classroom. However, as a math / science teacher, I really struggle with grading writing assignments. I found this article to be an amazing tool with tips and hints for grading writing samples. The article includes a great survey that the author used with her students that provided feedback on how students view comments. I especially liked the sections on "examples of comments that students found helpful on returned assignments" and "examples of comments that were not helpful". Also particularly interesting was the advice to collaborate with the students' reading / language arts teacher when assigning writing, communicating expectations, and grading written work. Overall, I found the article to be very well written and informative, especially from a newer teacher's perspective.

Informative & Helpful

This resource is very informative and helpful. I initially thought it'd just be tips for integrating invertebrates into your classroom, and was pleasantly surprised to see the resources and lessons provided. I love the idea of having students teach a lesson about the chosen animal to younger students. I cannot wait to incorporate these activities into my 4th classroom next year.
