Julie, I agree compeletely! Science notebooks are a great way to assess students throughout their learning process. What a great idea! This will help reduce waste in the lunch room, while teaching students the importance of recylcing and composting. I did a unit like this in school but it only lasted a month or so, so it would be wonderful to see it school wide forever! I can agree that it makes students more aware of how much food they watse, as well as, being more self conconscience of the foods...

Hello,
My favorite first day science activity is designing rockets, on which the students give infromation about themselves that we would present later in the day, then we shoot them off! It gets kids excited about school and it means they just go over rules all day. It also allows them to be creative in their designs and lets you get to know them a little more!
