Hi! My name is Fiona Cherrett and I have been a kindergarten teacher for the past 5 years! I currently live in Maui and am teaching here on island! Before teaching Kindergarten I was a preschool teacher for 3 years at a Montessori School. My passion is in public education so I decided to leave preschool and become a public school teacher. I am originally from Chicago and attended College at, Miami University and got a degree in Early Childhood Education. Kindergarten is my passion and I absolutely love creating hands on lessons for my students. In Kindergarten I am able to tap into my creative side and create lessons that are engaging and fun for all my students. Hands-on learning, bringing in creativity to lessons, and bringing in student engagement have become my true passion for education, I want my students to want to learn and feel safe in the environment they are doing it in!

Weather Vs. Climate

I loved this lesson. It follows the 5E model of instruction to help students understand the difference between weather and climate. Students are collecting data to help decided what people should wear in their area. I love the idea of this lesson, as it helps students make a personal connection. Which is key in their learning!

Weather Day Fun!

The idea for a weather day is such a great idea! This resource is a great way for students to get involved with weather and it makes it interesting and makes a personal connection, which is always key when it comes to learning. This article was a great read and it was cool to get to see that they worked with real meteorologist. I believe that this lesson could be adapted to any elementary grade level and am excited to see what I can do with this lesson with my Kindergarten class.

I enjoyed this lesson!

This lesson is a great lesson to teach in the younger grades. I will be using this lesson in my own classroom and adapt it to the kindergarten age. I love how it teaches children to collect data and organize their results at a young age, which we are finding as educators is important. In addition to a great lesson idea the author leaves valuable information on tracking and extension actives and links to the standards. As an educator I found this to be extremely useful. This lesson can be adapted for several age groups and I think that is a valuable portion of this article. This article is filled with value and teaches an important lesson to students and is a wonderful resource for teachers and on top of it, it is an easy read which is always great!
