I am a full time student at UMBC majoring in American Studies and minoring in Elementary Education. I graduated from Howard County Community College with an AA and on the Deans list. I work at a daycare in Howard County and am also a single mom of an awesome 6 year old little girl. My goal is to teach 3rd or 4th grade in Baltimore City.
River lesson plan
This lesson plan will include visits to a river by the school, taking water samples, engineering a tool to measure the dimensions of the river, and using this tool to get dimensions and record.

I am a student at UMBC and have been given the fun but challenging assignment of planning a 2 week unit for science. The fun and interesting part is it has to be big and it can be something you would never do in the classroom because it is too big or too expensive. It's to get us thinking and really understand engaging the students and allowing them to explore. I have so many ideas I want to do...

[sub]I love the idea of having the students observe stars and constellations. I think having them write a few points you ask them and drawing a picture 2 to 3 times a week would go well with this. We are doing something like that this with observing a tree and it has really opened my eyes to the changes and has helped me see things I've never noticed before. I am so excited at age 35 my eyes ar...

I love science notebook. My daughter has started using one in 1st grade and she loves to bring it home and share her writings. Her teacher allows her to write one thing she enjoyed, one thing she wonders, and one thing she struggled with each day. She also keeps any observations she does. This not only allows her teacher to see where she stands but me to see. I am writing this idea down so I ...

Science Sampler: Water, Water, Everywhere?
Fri, Oct 16, 2015 11:04 PM Activities for middle school
This article had a few activities that seemed very interesting and fun to do. The concept is try to teach students that water is not as abundant as you may think. This article is very helpful if you are trying to teach your students about the lack of water or unclean water. The activities do seem a little boring so a twist to them would probably help but maybe since it's geared to middle school it's not needed.
Fri, Oct 16, 2015 10:55 PM STEM at its best
This article has given me a great idea for my science lesson plan. This teacher went big and made an incredible lesson that the kids really enjoyed and were hands on through out the activity. This is a true example of a terrific STEM activity. I love the detail the article gave and really think this can help all teachers interested in doing an excellent STEM lesson on rivers, engineering, and dimensions.
