My best advice would be to find a few different activities that require minimal materials. I would then send directions home to the families on how each activity would work. The best way in my opinion to help students who are frequently disengaged is to plan a lesson around their interests. I did a STEM activity about how food gives us energy and involved boat racing which is something a couple of my fourth graders love! I had never seen them more engaged and they really understood the concept (even thought it had noting to do with boats)!

I completely agree with you Emma. The sooner you get students thinking about research, the better off they will be in school and future endeavors. Being able to find quaility resources such as NSTA articles is an essential skill students need to aquire in order to learn quality content.
