I am entering my final year and as a student at Wright State University. My major is Early Childhood Education and as of now I am leaning towards teaching Kindergarten. I am anxious to graduate and I'm looking forward to the journey ahead of me.

Always something hands-on! Get the kids involved and have them experience something that will wow them. Let them use all of their senses to learn. It also pulls children when you don't give all of the answers. Let the children explore and use inquiry-based learning to teach them. Good luck with the rest of your senior year in college and your future teaching job! :)

If there's any way for you to teach the lesson outside, I would. Maybe if the school has a community garden or has a little area in the front with anything growing. Having children experience that environment of living and nonliving hands on is extremely beneficial for real-world explanations and it's much more literal then showing bringing in objects into the classroom.

Seeing Science in Haiku

I thought that this was such a cool idea. I had never thought of incorporating science and haiku's and meshing the two into one. The students have to write down their observations from the different activities provided in the article. Once they have their observations, they have to try to reword them to make them fit into the haiku format. They also have to figure out synonyms to certain words that make their observations sound more eloquent but still accurate. This involves a higher level of thinking and creativity.

I am not a teacher with my own classroom yet, but I intend to use the strategies provided in this article for the future. I'm a K-3 student teacher and the activities listed in this article were age-appropriate and engaging. It's so much more than just reading a book and doing a worksheet. These students are up and out of their seat outside of the classroom experiencing the real world. These types of experiences lead to a greater level of understanding.
